how did you get that answer?
multiply each side of the second equation by 3, and add first equation with the second. Doing this, you will get rid of y.
       x+3y=17
 +   12x-3y=9
     ----------------
       13x=26
          x=2
plug in 2 instead x into one of the equations above and get y.
