I need to simplify 16 1/2 and I am not quite sure how to do it.  Could some one please help?

assuming you want to turn it into an inproper fraction? to do this 16  1/2 first multiply the whole number by the deminator and then add the numerator.

16 x 2 = 32    32+1 = 33

your answer is 33/2  

check: when you divide 33/2 you get 16.5 or 16 1/2
