Ernie walks 1/6 miles in 1/12 hour when he walks along the river trail. How many miles per hour does Ernie walks when he hikes on the trail?

1/6 miles in 1/12 hour    convert hours to minutes
1/12 hour to 60/12 min, simplify 60/12 min to 5/1 min
1/6 miles in 5 min        remove fractional value in distance
6*1/6 miles in 6*5 min                Do both sides
1 mile in 30 min          Convert back to hours
1 mile in 1/2 hour      remove fractional value in time
2*1 miles in 2(1/2) hour   remember the 'both sides' bit
2 miles in 1 hour or 2 miles per hour

Sorry, that is a visualization rather than a math operation...
I used it to convert the hour to minutes...
The hour is sliced into 12 parts so I converted the hour into minutes because it is easier, in this specific case, to divide 60 by 12 than to divide 1 by 12 then convert the answer to minutes...
My explanation is an attempt to break my processing into steps and it reflects my own style of working problems...
