two x minus two y equals negative two.Negative eight x plus two y equals twenty

 2x -  2y = -2
-8x + 2y = 20         Add them
-------------------
-6x         = 18        Solve for x
x = -3

Use the first formula to find y
2*(-3) - 2y = -2
-6 - 2y = -2
-2y = 4
y = -2

Use the second formula to verify the values
-8x + 2y = 20
(-8 * -3) + (2 * -2) = 20
24 + (-4) = 20
20 = 20
