4x + 7 = 10 + 3x

subtract 3x from both sides 4x - 3x + 7 = 10 + 3x - 3x

then combine like terms   x + 7 = 10

subtract 7 from both sides x + 7 - 7 = 10 - 7

combine like terms and x = 3
