To find the midway point between two other points you take the average of the x values and y values. The average of the x values is (4+1)/2=2.5 and the average of the y values is (-6-2)/2=-8/2=-4. So the midway point is (2.5,-4). In general, the rule is ((x1+x2)/2, (y1+y2)/2), where the points are (x1,y1) and (x2,y2).
