Let's say Jim's earnings come in a packet and Joe's earnings come in three packets identical to Jim's, then we have 4 packets altogether amounting to $450.
That means each packet contains a quarter of $450=$112.50. Three of the packets belong to Joe=3*112.50=$337.50.
None of the available options has this figure, so there has been an error in the presentation of the problem or the possible answers.
If the error is in the problem $450 should be $4500 when option b applies; otherwise there's a decimal point missing in the answers so option b. $3375 should read $337.50. (The other options are also 10 times too big.)
