Add 15.6 to each side: 8.6x=60.2, so x=60.2/8.6. It may be easier to get rid of the decimal points by moving them both one place to the right (equivalent to multiplying by 10): 602/86=301/43=7.

Given 8.6x-15.6=44.6
8.6x=15.6+44.6
8.6x=60.2
x=7
