x=5y-8, 4x+3y=5

you have the vale of x. x=5y-8. so substitute that value in place of x in the second equation.

4(5y-8) + 3y = 5

20y - 32 + 3y = 5

20y + 3y= 5 +32

23y = 37

y = 37/23 =  approx 1.6

place the found value of y into the first equation and solve for x

x = 5y -8

x = 5(1.6) -8

x= 8.04 - 8

x = 0.04

ck

x=5y-8, 4x+3y=5

(0.04) = 5(1.6) -8,   4(0.04) +3(1.6) =5

0.04 = 8-8,  0.16 + 4.8 = 5

0.04=0,    4.96 = 5
