 3y-1=x

3x+5y=1

from equation 1 we know x, so plug that in to the 2nd to get

3(3y-1) + 5y = 1

9y - 3 + 5y = 1

14y = 4

y = 2/7.  Now plug that in to either equation to get x = -1/7
