  1. Monthly salary=2*3500=$7000.
  2. Let X=expenditure in May. That leaves him 7000-X savings. So 7000-X=X-4200 and 2X=11200 so X=5600 and he saved 7000-5600=$1400 (which is $4200 less than the $5600 he spent).
