(-2x + 10) - (-6x + 5y + 12) + (x + 8y - 16)

=(-2*5 + 10) - (-6*5 + 5*-4 + 12) + (5 + 8*-4 - 16)

= (-10 + 10) - (-30 - 20 + 12) + (5  -32 - 16)

= 0 - (-38) + (-43)

= 38 - 43

= -5
