2x+3x-5+4x+2=65, 9x-3=65, 9x=68, x=68/9=7 5/9 or about 7.56 inches.

The three lengths are 2x=15=15.11", 3x-5=17.66", 4x+2=32.22".

Thank you!!enlightened Can you help me with this one: The expression (4x²+6x)in.² represents the area of a rectangular region whose width is 2x in. explain the terms of the expression in the context of the area of the region.

If the width is 2x then the length is the area/width=(4x^2+6x)/2x=2x(2x+3)/2x=2x+3.

This works because the area factorises and one of the factors happens to be 2x. The other factor of course is the length 2x+3. Both length and width are in inches so the product is square inches.

Thanks!!
