I'm not sure what this is for, but here is a routine that would give that effect on a 50x50 matrix.

 

j:= 0;

for r = 1 to 49;

  for c = 2 + j to 50;
    cell[r,c] := 0;
​  next c;
​  j:=j+1;
next r;
