Let Tom’s amount be T then Megan’s amount is 3T/2. Added together they have 5T/2=2.00, so Tom, T=⅖ of £2=80p. Tom has 80p.

Megan has 1½ times this which is £1.20.

Tom has 40×2p=80p so Megan has 40×3p=£1.20, so the answer fits!
