Courtney is building a rectangular wading pool. 8She wants the area of the bottom to be 54ft squared. She also wants the length of the pool to be 3ft longer than its width.

if the width is w the length is w+3, so the area is 54=w(w+3)=w²+3w and w²+3w-54=0=(w+9)(w-6), so the width is 6 feet and the length is 9 feet.
