The equation is: y^-2 - 3y^-1 - 18

y^-2(1 - 3y - 18y^2)

y^-2(1 + 3y)(1 - 6y)

Your equation now has three factors: y^-2, 1+3y, 1-6y

Let x=y⁻¹, so we have x²-3x-18=(x-6)(x+3).

Now put x=y⁻¹: (y⁻¹-6)(y⁻¹+3).
