Let A and C be the costs of adult and child tickets respectively.

2A+3C=23

4A+2C=34, 2A+C=17, C=17-2A.

Substitute in first equation: 2A+3(17-2A)=23, 2A+51-6A=23, 51-23=4A, 4A=28, A=$7, so C=17-14=$3.

Adult ticket costs $7 and child ticket costs $3.
