100¼=401/4 because there are 400 quarters in 100 plus 1 makes 401 quarters or 401/4.

Since 100 1/4 is a mixed number, 100 is an integer and 1/4 is a fraction, and 100 1/4 is not 100*(1/4)but 100+(1/4). So, it's read aloud a hundred and a quarter.  The first step taken in adding an integer to a fraction is converting the integer into a fraction with a denominator common to that of the fraction given.

In order to make the denominators the smallest for easier handling of fractions, we'll use LCM(Least Common Multiple) of the two denominators.  Two denominators are 1 for integer 100, and 4 for fraction 1/4, because 100=(1/1)*100=100/1.  Since 1 and 4 have no common factors, LCM of 1 and 4 is 4(=1*4)

So that the mixed number is rewritten as follows: 100 1/4 =(100)+1/4 = (100/1)+1/4 = (1/1)*(100/1)+1/4=(4/4)*(100/1)+1/4 = (4*100)/(4*1) + 1/4 = (400/4) + 1/4 = (400+1)/4 =401/4

Therefore, the improper fraction asked is 401/4.                                                                                                                                            The other way  of solving this problem.

a. Multiply integer 100 times 4 of the fraction 1/4.  The product is 400.  This means finding how many 1/4 is in 100.  (100/1 ÷ 1/4 = 100*4/1)

b. Add the product 400 to the numerator 1 of the fraction 1/4, getting the new numerator 401 (=400+1).

c. The improper fraction asked is 401/4.
