lw =area

x(x+15)=324

x^2+15x-324=0

(x+27)(x-12)=0

x=12 feet, the width

x+15=27 feet, the length

find length and width of a rectangle that is 15 ft longer than it is wide and its area is 324 ft squared.

length = w +15

l*w = area

substitute

w*(w+15)=324

w^2 +15w -324=0

(w+27)(w-12)=0

width = 12 feet

so, length = 12 + 15= 27 feet
