how do you grah a rational function?

I am in pre-calc and my teacher gave us this worksheet that wants us to graph rational functions. i understand it for the most part but the thing i dont understand is how to factor them. one of the questions looks like this:

f(x)=(5x+20)/(x^2+x-12)

then it gives me a graph. if anybody understands this plz help me ASAP!!!! this homework is due tomorrow :(

equashun=5(x+4)/[(x+4)(x-3)]

=5/(x-3)

defined for all x sept x=3
