how do i solve this equation using the substitution method 7x-2y=0, 2x+y=-11

In spite of how wonderfully helpful the five previous answers have been,
I will add my answer to the list.

Re-write the second equation to solve for y.

2x + y = -11
y = -2x - 11

SUBSTITUTE that value for y into the first equation.

7x - 2y = 0
7x - 2(-2x - 11) = 0
7x + 4x + 22 = 0
11x = -22
x = -2

SUBSTITUTE that value for x into the second equation.

2x + y = -11
2(-2) + y = -11
-4 + y = -11
y = -11 + 4
y = -7

Check those values by SUBSTITUTING both into either equation.

7x - 2y = 0
7(-2) - 2(-7) = 0
-14 + 14 = 0
