4x + 3y = 11

y = 8x - 1

in the top equation, replace the y with 8x - 1

4x + 3(8x-1) = 11

4x + 24x - 3 = 11

28x - 3 = 11

28x = 14

x = 1/2

y = 8x - 1

y = 8(1/2) - 1

y = 4 - 1

y = 3

Answer:  x = 1/2, y = 3
