The area of a segment, shaped like a piece of pie, is a fraction of the area of a circle, which has an area of (pi)r^2, where r= radius. The fraction is obtained by dividing the angle of the segment by 360. So if ø is the angle in degrees, the area is ø(pi)r^2/360. EXAMPLE: If ø=30° then the area of the segment is (pi)r^2/12. If r=6 cm then the area is 3(pi) or about 9.425 sq cm.
