-v + 6 + 5v = 1 + 5v + 3

combine the v's on the left

combine the numbers on the right

4v + 6 = 5v + 4

subtract 4v from both sides

4v - 4v + 6 = 5v - 4v + 4

6 = v + 4

subtract 4 from both sides

6 - 4 = v + 4 - 4

2 = v

Answer:  v = 2
