The cost (c) of producing n bricks is the sum of a fixed amount, h,and a variable amount y where y varies directly as n.If it costs £950 to produce 600 bricks and £1030 to produce 1000 bricks, find the relationship between c,h and n

from the same question how will you calculate the cost of producing 500 bricks.
Use the equation c=830+n/5 with n=500: c=830+100=£930.

c=h+y; y=kn, where k is a constant, so c=h+kn. c=950 when n=600, so 950=h+600k; 1030=h+1000k. Subtract the last two equations: 80=400k, making k=1/5. Take one of the equations and substitute for k: 950=h+120, making h=830. Check this out in the other equation: 1030=830+200 is true. Therefore c=830+n/5. (y=n/5). c is measured in £'s.
