with out using pythagoras theorem how do i explain this ? because we havent read pythagoras theorem unit yet

if a make another square (B) of side length equal to diagonal of given square ( let say A) then square B area must be doubled the area of square A ??

d^2 = a^2 + a^2

d^2 = 2a^2

a^2 = d^2/2

a= sgrt(d^2/2) = d/sgrt2 = (d*sgrt2)/2
