The perimeter of a rectangle is 30 inches. The length is 3 more than the width. What is the length and width of the rectangle?

Perimeter = P

Width = W

Length = L

P = 2W + 2L

P = 2W + 2(W+3)        (length is 3 more than width)

P = 4W + 6

30 = 4W + 6          (Perimeter is 30 inches)

4W = 24

W = 6, L = 9

Length is width+3. 2(width+width+3)=30, the perimeter.

2*width+3=15, so width=6”. The length is 9”.
