The diameter of the circle must be the length of the side of the square, 4in. The radius of the circle is 2in, so its area is 2*2(pi) sq in. The area of the square is 4*4=16 sq in, so the difference between the two areas gives the area wasted: 16-4(pi)=3.434 sq in approx.
