3x^2 - x

You'll get used to this and just do it by looking at it, but here's the step-by-step way:

We want to pull an x out, so we do this:

1 (3x^2 - x)

(x/x) (3x^2 - x)

x (1/x) (3x^2 - x)

x ( 3x^2/x - x/x)

x ( 3x - 1 )
