9 - 3(2 + 6) ÷ 6 - 2 x 5

you need to use PEMDAS

solve parenthesis first

solve exponents next

then multiplication left to right across the line

and finally addition and subtract left to right across the line 

9 - 3(8) / 6 - 2 x 5 solve the parenthesis.

no exponents

multiply and divide across the line 

9 - 24/6 - 10

9 - 4 - 10
