the length of a garden is 5 ft. longer than the width. the perimeter of the garden is 38 ft

i need to know the equation to find the answer to the length and width

let L = W + 5

P = 2L + 2W

38 = 2 (W + 5) + 2W

38 = 2W + 10 + 2W

38 = 4W + 10  (subtract 10 on both sides)

28 = 4W (divide by 4 on both sides)

7 = W

if W = 7 feet , then L = 5 + W

                        L = 12 feet

to check:     P = 2L + 2W

                   38 = 2 (12) + 2 (7)

                   38 = 24 + 14

                   38 = 38
