In the above picture, set B is shown as an unshaded circle while its complement B' is the diagonal shaded rectangle. Set A is a shaded circle within B' and the cross-hatching in A is meant to represent the mixture of A elements with B' elements (A by itself has opposite diagonal shading to B'). The cross-hatching represents the union of A and B' or A OR (NOT B).
