Let the total number of passengers in the beginning of the bus ride be  y.

Number of passengers after first stop=y-3

Number of passengers after next three stops=y-3-8=y-11

Number of passengers after fifth stop=y-11-4+2=y-13

Number of passengers after sixth stop=2/3(y-13)  -------------  (as 1/3 of them get down)

2/3(y-13)=14

y-13=14 (3/2)

y-13=21

y=34

The total number of passengers in the beginning of the bus ride was 34.
