I'm assuming that the letter sequence continues after z as aa,bb,cc...

There is zero  "gap" between a and b, 1 between b and d, 2 between d and g, 3 between g and k. Using this pattern to continue the sequence four more places:

a, b, d, g, k, p, v, bb, jj...
