bought 1 5/8 kg of ham, 6 1/4 kg of sliced corned beef and 5/8 kg of coleslaw =total weight?

ham =1 5/8kg = 1+ 5/8 =  (1 *8 + 5)/8           { after doing LCM }

                             = (8 +5) /8

              ham             = 13/8 kg------------------(1)

beef =6 1/4  = 6 + 1/4  = ( 6*4 + 1 )/4

                             = (24 + 1 )/4

             beef               = 25 / 4kg--------------------------------(2)

cole slaw = 5/8 kg -----------------------------------(3)

 Total = (1) + (2) + (3)

           = 13/8 + 25/ 4 + 5/8

           = 13/8 + (25 *2)/ (4* 2) + 5/8           [ making all denominaters equal

                                                 we did                     25/2 = (25 *2)/(4*2)  ]

          = 13/8 + 50/8 + 5/8

          = (13 + 50 + 5)/8

         = (68) / 8

          = 17/2

          = 8.5kg
